- Usually treated non operatively
- Operative indications are Open fractures, Displaced fracture with skin tenting, Subclavian artery or vein injury, Floating shoulder (clavicle and scapular neck fracture), Symptomatic nonunion and malunion
- Displaced lateral-end fractures have a higher risk of nonunion after nonoperative treatment
- Lateral end fractures treated with hook plate
- No demonstratable a difference in limb function between patients who underwent surgical treatment and those nonsurgically treated for a dislocated midshaft clavicle fracture
- Surgical management of clavicle fractures has a significant rate of complications and a nearly 25% rate of reoperation
- Functional outcomes are good after nonoperative treatment of displaced fracture also
